August 8 Is International Cat Day | Strengthen Your Bond with Your Cat Through Brushing

Hello 😊
This is Sunny from NENE’s store 🌻

August 8 is International Cat Day.

It is a special day to celebrate cats around the world and to reflect on how we can make life happier and healthier for them.

Our beloved little ones are always there by our side.

They may seem independent and carefree, but then suddenly come over for affection or quietly gaze at us from across the room.

Those simple, everyday moments are truly precious.

In honor of International Cat Day, we would like to talk about something that can be an important part of life with cats: brushing.

Is Brushing Just About Keeping Their Coat Beautiful?

Cats naturally groom themselves, but self-grooming alone may not always be enough to remove all loose hair.

Especially for long-haired cats and during shedding seasons, loose fur can remain in the coat and lead to tangles or mats.

Regular brushing can help:

  • Remove loose hair
  • Prevent tangles and mats
  • Keep the coat looking smooth and healthy
  • Make it easier to notice changes in the skin or body

But we believe brushing has another very important role as well.

Brushing Can Be a Time for “Conversation”

As you gently move the brush over your cat’s body, you may begin to notice little things.

“They seem to enjoy being brushed here.”

“Maybe they don’t like being touched in this area.”

Cats may not speak our language, but they communicate with us through their expressions, movements, and behavior.

Brushing can be one of the ways we notice those small signals and better understand how they are feeling.

It does not have to be a long grooming session every day.

Even just a few minutes of calm, comfortable time together can be meaningful.

Little by little, brushing may become a special moment that brings you and your cat closer.

If Your Cat Doesn’t Like Brushing, Don’t Force It

Of course, not every cat enjoys brushing from the very beginning.

Some may run away as soon as they see the brush, while others may simply dislike having certain parts of their body touched.

In those cases, there is no need to force them into a long brushing session.

You can start small:

  • Simply let them see and smell the brush
  • Gently brush their back once or twice
  • Focus only on the areas where they seem comfortable

A good rule is to stop before they become uncomfortable or frustrated.

Over time, the goal is to help change the feeling of
“brush = something unpleasant”
into
“brush = a relaxing and comfortable experience.”

There is no need to rush.

On International Cat Day, Take a Little Extra Time to Appreciate Your Cat

When we spend every day together, it can be easy to take their presence for granted.

But every day we get to share with them is something special.

This International Cat Day, why not slow down for just a few extra minutes?

Gently stroke your little one, brush their coat, and take a moment to notice their expressions and reactions.

We hope brushing can become a time when both you and your cat can simply feel:

“This feels nice.”

May cats all around the world continue to enjoy happy, comfortable lives surrounded by the families who love them. 🐈✨
