Starting yesterday, we began our interviews with the finalists of the UchiKawa Contest ð¶âš
For our very first interview, we were joined by Arlo, a Bernese Mountain Dog ð¶ ð§¡
This time, weâll be introducing what was discussed during the live stream in an interview-style format âš
First, letâs hear a little about Arlo ð¶!
Interviewer:
First, could you briefly introduce yourself and tell us a little about Arlo ð¶?
Arlo ð¶:
Iâm Arlo, a Bernese Mountain Dog. Iâm a boy, and Iâll be 11 months old this month.
Interviewer:
What kind of personality does he have?
Arlo ð¶:
Heâs very affectionate and friendly. He loves both dogs and people, and basically gets along with everyone.
Interviewer:
I see! So heâs the kind of dog who wags his tail at everyone?
Arlo ð¶:
Yes! He wags his tail and jumps up to greet them.
What are Arloâs ð¶ favorite food and favorite way to play?
Interviewer:
Now, moving on to our âMy Favorite Thingsâ segment, Iâd like to ask you about some of Arloâs ð¶ favorite things and the cutest things about him.
What is Arloâs favorite food?
Arlo ð¶:
Honestly, he eats pretty much anything like itâs his absolute favorite. Heâll eat anything!
Interviewer:
What kind of activities does he enjoy?
Arlo ð¶:
Rather than playing, he really likes turning his back and sitting on his ownerâs lap, with his back and butt facing them.
What expressions or behaviors does he only show his family?
Interviewer:
Are there any expressions or behaviors that he only shows to his family?
Arlo ð¶:
Something he only shows his family? ð Heâs always glued to us. Even when weâre in bed, heâll wiggle his way into our arms and snuggle up close.
Interviewer:
Thatâs so cute! He sounds almost like a boyfriend!
Arlo ð¶:
Yes! People often comment on Instagram saying things like, âHeâs basically your boyfriend!â
About the Photo That Was Selected as a Finalist ðž

Next, Iâd like to ask you about the photo that was selected as one of the finalists. This is the photo you submitted.
When and where was this photo taken, and what was happening at the time?
Arlo ð¶:
I think this was the very first photo we took on New Yearâs Day, right after welcoming the New Year. When I woke up that morning, he was already like this, looking so proud of himself.
Interviewer:
You can really see that âI did it!â expression in the photo, too!
Is there anything in particular that youâd like everyone to pay attention to?
Arlo ð¶:
What I especially want everyone to notice is how much Bernese Mountain Dogs grow in just one month. I really want people to appreciate how adorable he was during this baby stage.
Daily Grooming Routine ðª®
Interviewer:
From here, Iâd also love to talk about Arloâs ð¶ grooming routine. He has such a big body, and his coat is so thick and long. What kind of grooming do you usually do?
Arlo ð¶:
I brush him every day, wipe his face, and also apply cream to his paw pads.
Interviewer:
Are there any tips or tricks you have when brushing him?
Arlo ð¶:
Tips for brushing? Well, I think the brush itself is really good, so I donât really need any special technique. He just finds it comfortable and relaxing, so thereâs not really any trick to it.
Interviewer:

Arlo ð¶:
I use it every day.

How Much Does Arlo Walk Each Day?
Interviewer:
We have a question asking, âHow much do you walk each day?â
Arlo ð¶:
In the summer, itâs really hot, so our walks are a little shorter right now. Normally, though, we walk for about an hour in the morning and another hour at night.
About Arloâs ð¶ Diet ð
Interviewer:
We also have a question about Arloâs diet. What does he usually eat?
Arlo ð¶:
Heâs still eating puppy food. Right now, I give him about 300 grams per meal. In addition to that, I sometimes give him chicken tenderloin as a snack or add some toppings to his meals.
What Do You Do on Rainy Days?
Interviewer:
What do you do when itâs raining and you canât go for a walk?
Arlo ð¶:
If itâs pouring rain, we usually donât go out. But if itâs just drizzling a little, we still go for a walk.
Interviewer:
Do you put him in a raincoat?
Arlo ð¶:
No, because we usually go for a walk before his bath. So he just runs around, gets wet, and comes home like that!
Whatâs the Funniest Prank Heâs Ever Pulled? ð
Interviewer:
We have a question asking, âWhatâs the funniest prank heâs ever pulled?â
Arlo ð¶:
The funniest one was when he made a hole in the wall that was almost big enough to be a black hole! You could see materials that were definitely not supposed to be visible, and it looked like he was about to make a connection to the outside world!
What Is Arloâs ð¶ Cutest Gesture?
Interviewer:
And finally, what is Arloâs cutest gesture?
Arlo ð¶:
I think the cutest thing is what he does in the morning. When he realizes that Iâve woken up, he comes running over to me. Iâm sure he thinks heâs saying, âGood morning, Mom!â But he wakes me up with something that feels almost like getting slapped in the face! ð Itâs painful, but so cute.
